Dull, pit-like areas on the rolling surface
(Under)corrosion
Cannot be cleaned
Corrosion appears as dull, rough, or pitted areas on the anilox surface. It often takes on a “butterfly shape”: a dark center (the damaged area) surrounded by a lighter area. These spots cannot be cleaned. They are permanently damaged by tiny cracks in the ceramic; they are not caused by surface contamination.
How does it arise?
- Prolonged exposure to ink, moisture, or chemical residues on the roller.
- Inadequate rinsing, harsh cleaning agents, or prolonged machine downtime with product residue can lead to subsurface corrosion.
What to do.
- Unfortunately, corrosion cannot be cleaned off.
- Remove the roll from production and consult a CSG troubleshooter for further evaluation.
Please note:
This is permanent damage to the ceramic. Repairing or replacing the roller is the only solution. Contact Clean Solutions Group for advice.
